Ashford International Film Studios at Newtown Works in Ashford
Ashford International Film Studios is no doubt one of the most significant regeneration projects of the last few decades, converting 12.6 acres of brownfield site into a world-class film studio and mixed-use facility. Although, subject to a shaky start, with funding granted in 2020 and a (seemingly) only fleeting buy-in from Netflix, work finally began on the site in 2025 - two years after its planned completion date.

Revisiting the Canterbury Photographic Society
In addition, Lyn and I decided that, whilst Natalie was the obvious choice of model with which the members could practice their skills developed, I would also pose for the members. Having both of us in front of cameras would be beneficial in a number of ways, not least in that I have no modeling experience whatsoever; I’m happy directing models myself, but not knowing what I look like whilst I’m posing meant that I was reliant on the photographers themselves directing me. Very much a challenge for them!

Sustainability in Folkestone and Hythe
I genuinely love providing professional event photography and do my best to bring out the key themes of the event in every shoot. As an Ashford photographer, I was asked by the spectacular Liù Batchelor on behalf of nearby Folkestone and Hythe Council to take photos of this year’s Sustainable Futures Forum (SFF). Here are some of the details of the photos of the event and details of Folkestone's sustainability initiate.

Avoid These Common Mistakes When Taking DIY Headshots
In a digital age, a polished headshot is a significant asset. Whether you're an entrepreneur, corporate professional, or artist, a well-executed headshot can vastly influence how you're perceived online. While DIY headshots may seem cost-efficient, they often lack the professional touch. Here’s a guide to avoid common pitfalls when taking your own headshots.

What photos belong in an actor's portfolio?
Whether you are going for a lead part or work as an extra, or have your profile on on Spotlight, Backstage, Actors Access, Casting Networks, or Project Casting, an up-to-date portfolio of actor headshots is essential. Casting directors will not look at photographs for more than a couple of seconds, and so headshots must be eye-catching and memorable. The current trend for head shots is to look despondent off into the middle distance in a de-saturated photo with crushed blacks. No doubt it is important to have at least one photo in your portfolio that matches current trends, but that should not be the sum total of what you show off.

Five Tricks to Stand Out in Business and Corporate Headshots
I see so many headshots taken with iPhone's portrait mode by people who think that will make them memorable. It won't! A good headshot has nothing to do with the tools that are being used, but the technique employed.
Here are five ways to really stand out in your business and corporate headshots. Get in touch if you'd like to know more!

January 24 Update - I’ve Moved!
Having finally emerged from the sugar coma created as a result of too much Christmas stollen, lebekuchen, mulled wine and brandy butter, it's finally back to work! It's been a busy few months, but I'm excited for January is going to bring. Here's a quick update on what has been going on and what is in the pipeline for me over the next few weeks.
First, I’ve moved! Having lived in Canterbury for over 16 years, I moved in with my partner in September. That means that Chris Henry Photography also moved to its new home in Great Chart, Ashford, and the move brought with it a number of changes.

Canterbury Photographic Society Presentation
I was honoured to be invited to speak to the Canterbury Photographic Society about my portrait and headshot photography last night. The society meets weekly in the Tyler Hill Memorial Hall and its members shoot a wide range of different types of photos, with a wide range of levels of experience.
It was lovely to share techniques and tips with members of the society (the members loved hearing in particular about how I use a ‘pet’ (OK… the lens cap of one of my lights!) as something clients can hold and play with to keep their hands busy during a shoot!

How to Professionally Retouch a Portrait Photograph
In this video I show you how I professionally retouch a portrait photograph using Adobe’s Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. Starting from a raw image, I will show you my workflow, use of frequency separation and how I sharpen, as well as how I change my mind on some dodging and burning (I explain why I change my mind, too!).
