How I like to work
Before you book, you should know a bit about how I work.
To really get the best out of your session, there's no point in rushing in front of the camera. Unless they are seasoned professionals, most people are daunted by the prospect of lights and cameras pointing at them with a relative stranger taking photos of them, and I estimate that 9 out of 10 clients tell me they are nervous leading to the photo shoot.
I understand that entirely, which is why my photo shoots on average last around two to three hours and the first thing we will do when you come in will be to sit down, get comfortable and have a chat. I’ll explain to you how my setup works, show you what happens when I take a photo and you see it on the screen so that we can discuss what looks good and what doesn't, and answer any questions you have.
This is important, not only so that you are fully comfortable with what you are engaged in, but also because the rapport and connection we build is so important to the photos that emerge at the end of the process.
During the shoot itself, I will provide as much or as little guidance as needed in order to structure the shoot. Some clients love being in front of the camera, some are nervous but warm up as the shoot goes on, whilst others are doing it purely out of necessity! I will adapt throughout the shoot to ensure you feel supported and stimulated enough to create stunning images regardless of your level of confidence. In addition, I’ll suggest lighting and backdrop changes to complement your wardrobe and the look you wish to portray.
As the shoot comes to an end, I’ll make you a cuppa, and we will go through the longlist of photos we have been building up throughout the photo shoot. Now comes the really difficult bit: narrowing down the list of photos into a shortlist and then deciding ultimately which you would like to buy.
Most clients buy between five and 10 images, recognising the importance of a variety of high-quality photos in their portfolio, but I will never upsell anything: my reputation matches my commitment that clients take home only images they genuinely love and are confident showing off. I don't sell packages for this very reason; I would hate to force clients to spend money on photos that were not going to be shown off.
After the shoot, I will apply some light retouching and my signature colour grading, and have the results ready for you within two weeks (turnaround time can be shorter, but please let me know in advance).
Studio cat Kio likes to join in occasionally, but let me know if you don’t like cats or have an allergy and I’ll make sure he doesn’t disturb us.
